This fantastic tip creates alternating row colours in excel and, unlike other ways to do this, you don’t have to change the row colours every time you insert, delete, or move a row.

  1. First highlight the rows that you wish to apply the formatting to.
  2. When the Conditional Formatting window appears, select Formula Is” in the drop down. Then enter the following formula

    mod(row(),2)=1

  3. Click on the Format button and select the Patterns tab. Then select the required highlight colour.
  4. Click on the OK button.
