Japanese Coffee Cup

Today’s old photo is not that old. This is a photograph taken through the base of an old Japanese tea cup I inherited from my parents. I love the craftsmanship that produces such a delicate and subtle image just by varying the thickness of the porcelain.

This little set was always proudly displayed by my mother in glass-fronted cabinet and we were never allowed to play with them. Now they live quiet lives, wrapped in tissue paper, alongside old calculators and slide rules stored in the Box of Old Technical Curiosities.
